CEGIST in Partnership with Dr. Nkechi Agwu, a Professor of Mathematics at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), City University of New York (CUNY) applied for the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship (ADF) Program based on our Project titled: “Culture and Women’s Stories: A Framework for Capacity Building in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Related Fields” which was selected for funding. The Project focuses on:

  • The development and Publication of innovative curriculum materials for the use in teaching mathematics in formal and informal educational setting at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels; based on the Nigerian socio-cultural issues relevant to nurturing girls to consider science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers;
  • Professional development and capacity building of select groups of primary and secondary school teachers, as well as University faculty in using the curriculum materials developed. This training-of-trainers (ToT) will create a pool of experts that can then show other mathematics educators how to adapt the curriculum materials for use in their classroom at all levels…
