The Centre for Gender Issues in Science and Technology (CEGIST) of The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has concluded arrangements to visit secondary schools in Ondo State to sensitize students on the choice of careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This sensitization tagged "STEM: Where are the Girls?" will focus more on the female students who, due to unjustifiable cultural barriers and societal beliefs, often find it difficult to venture into certain careers in Science and Technology; whereas the few who dare to do so hardly make it to the top. The program is proposed to start in November, 2017.

It is hoped that this program will stimulate the interest of female students in the following courses:

- Metallurgical and Materials Engineering

- Electrical/Electronics Engineering

- Mathematics

- Mechanical Engineering

- Civil Engineering

- Computer Engineering

- Geology

- Geophysics

- Medicine and Surgery

- Meteorology and Climate Sciences

- Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering

- Food Science and Technology

etc.
